Friesland Holland Travel organizes three-day car tour
In September 2024, Friesland Holland Travel curated a one-of-a-kind experience for the MR2 Toyota Club, organizing a special three-day tour of the Elfstedentocht. The journey kicked off on Friday evening in Workum, with 50 enthusiastic participants driving 25 cars. On Saturday, the iconic Elfstedentocht was experienced not on ice skates but from the comfort of their own vehicles, as they explored Friesland’s charming cities. The weekend concluded on Sunday with a picturesque photo moment at the quaint harbor of Laaxum.
A scenic road trip through Friesland with the MR2 Toyota Club
The Elfstedentocht, traditionally known for its skating history, was reimagined by Friesland Holland Travel in a whole new way: as a leisurely road trip. Participants drove along the eleven cities, soaking in the beautiful landscape and rich history of Friesland from the comfort of their cars. With 50 participants, split into 25 Toyota MR2s, the journey started from Workum, the heart of this adventure, and continued through the iconic Elfstedentocht cities.
The route was thoughtfully planned, and along the way, guests took part in a quiz featuring 22 questions about the Elfstedentocht and Friesland. From Leeuwarden to Sneek, Bolsward to Dokkum, each stop was an opportunity to experience the cultural heritage that defines these historic cities and their role in the legendary Elfstedentocht.
On Sunday morning, the group visited the charming harbor of Laaxum, located on the shores of the IJsselmeer, for a final photo moment as all 25 cars were lined up against the stunning backdrop.
